Japanese Silver and Gold Inlaid Iron Abumi (Stirrup), Edo Period, late 17th Century

Inlaid with gold and silver to show flowers, leaves and tendrils, red lacquer interior, signed Kashu ju Kunihira Chosuke saku (made by Kunihura Chosuke of Kashu) to the front. Kashu is in Kaga province, present day Ishikawa prefecture.

A genuine piece of Japanese armour from the 17th century, beautiful and sculptural, that fully evokes the era of samurai and the shogunate.

Condition is consistent with age, some loss to the inlay, rust and old areas of corrosion, cracks to the lacquer, as seen in images.
